Park Hill Library

Present:
Bruce Meyer; Denver
Dave Chandler; Arvada
Rob Roper; Denver (non-Green)
Matt Baldwin; Thornton (non-Green)
Lanny Kness; Thornton

We met in the sitting area upstairs next to the fire place without any interruptions. Next month we don't have the community room and might move the meeting to secure a room. April, May, and June we have the Park Hill community room reserved.

The Denver Resolution to the GPCO Council, promoting no Green Presidential Candidate on the Colorado ballot, was discussed at length. The arguments of public perception, media attention, Green volunteer involvement, Anybody But Bush, and party growth were raised along with a couple other notable reasons on both sides. Voting on Council ends Feb. 22.

Dave C., Rob, and Matt are against the resolution. Bruce and Lanny are in favor. Which brought up the point that three of our four Council members will be voting No which Bruce believes is not representative of the active Greens in Denver. Brad Klafehn might vote Yes only to represent the positive view, as he personally opposes the resolution.

This transitioned into selection of another Council representative from Denver to replace Brad Klafehn (after the current vote). Brad is GPCO Treasurer and therefore votes on Council through that position. Lanny volunteered and was accepted by consensus. Our current Council representatives are:
Bruce Meyer
Dave Chandler
Sunny Maynard
Lanny Kness
Brad Klafehn is on Council as GPCO Treasurer and Bruce McNaughton is on as GPCO Secretary. If Sunny stays on as GPCO Co-Chair she could give her Denver seat to another as she votes as Co-Chair. I was informed by Lucy, Council Facilitator, that Lanny cannot vote on the current item as voting has already commenced. So his position starts February 23rd.

Dave Chandler and others are prepared to start the Jefferson County Green Party and Dave presented Bylaws to create such a chapter. The split of Jefferson County from Denver GP was approved by consensus. Dave will present the new chapter at the state meeting April 24th and once approved Denver will amend its bylaws to remove Jefferson County. Dave had presented the new chapter as a Jefferson-Adams County chapter, though it was decided Adams should create its own chapter as soon as people are available. Notably, both Lanny and Matt are from Adams County and could be the core of a chapter there sometime this year.

We introduced the next Denver GP fundraiser, a bluegrass concert at the Soiled Dove downtown Denver, Saturday April 3rd. Josh Whitley is spearheading this effort and as he was not present could not give us further details. Dave, Bruce and Lanny all agreed to help and consider Josh the project lead on this effort. We will be putting a deposit down for the Soiled Dove and for a band. Tickets will be $18 pre sales, $20 day of show. Our break-even number is 225 tickets. If we fill the place we look to clear around $1500. More details soon.

Possible candidates for the November ballot have come to our attention through the distribution of a candidate recruitment appeal written by Rick Van Wie. We have some interest from a local Denver person and a Douglas county person. Dave and Lanny agreed to look into their inquiries and determine what offices we are considering. Bruce agreed to send Lanny the voting research available to assist in the process of locating good offices to challenge. As we confirm further interest we will introduce possible candidates and the March 16th meeting will be a meet and question session for prospective candidates.

Two Co-Chairs have recently stepped out of their positions. Christy Bouchard has returned to school and cannot continue as Secretary. Many thanks to Christy for her efforts in keeping meeting minutes, website design and upkeep, and her many hours put into the December fundraiser. Randy Richter needs to step out as Co-President as he needs to focus otherwise at this time. Thanks to Randy for helping with meeting organization, events and the fundraiser.

We nominated Lanny Kness as Secretary and he accepted the position. He will serve as Secretary and if need be we will confirm him next month. Welcome Lanny.

We still need another Co-President to complete our four Co-Chair positions. Anyone ready to serve? A suggestion to nominate Rick Van Wie was made, though Rick was unavailable for comment. More soon.

We believe Christy is willing to continue to update the DGP website, though Dave is ready and willing if he buys a new computer. So Dave will talk to Christy about this for future transfer of responsibility.

In discussion of GPCO officers, it was brought to the attention of the group how Sunny currently is the only GPCO Co-Chair. (there should be two) Sunny has mentioned a need to have a replacement while she takes some extended vacations this year. Lanny volunteered to be considered for a Co-Chair position. The group agreed to support him for this office. We will talk to Sunny to see if Lanny should apply for her seat or the open seat. Acceptance of Lanny will need to go to Council for discussion and confirmation.

We agreed to sign up for the People's Fair, taking place June 5th and 6th at Civic Center Park. Bruce will send in the registration fee. Please reserve some time in your schedules to volunteer on the 5th or 6th.

Next month we might reserve a room at the downtown library just to be sure we can meet successfully if 10 or 15 show up. Then we would return to Park Hill in April.

Meeting Adjourned.
